Community-based adult learning centres

Community-based adult learning is about taking learning to the learners; removing the barriers to learning and skills opportunities.

Community learning often takes place in a range of contexts including community centres, libraries, regeneration projects, youth centres, parent groups, luncheon clubs for the elderly and day centres for those with disabilities.

All of these providers are in places where members of local communities meet and enjoy opportunities for both formal work-related qualifications as well as learning related to personal development, including basic skills, and skills connected with work in the community.

Community-based learning also includes the provision of adult education for those with literacy and numeracy problems.
