STAR Performance
GUESTS at QIA’s Beacon status celebration on 28 January were treated to some moving performances by a past STAR Award winner’s students.
Amanda Hemmer, who was named the winner of the 2007 outstanding teaching, training and learning practitioner award, is a teacher in charge of performing arts at the Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) in Hereford. Three of Amanda’s students – Daniel Angus, Amy Gilbert and Matthew Richards – gave their performances in person, while the dancing of one other student, Adrian White, was played on video.
The full programme was:
‘Maple leaf Rag’ [Scott Joplin], performed by Matthew Richards on the piano
‘Hello’ [Lionel Richie], performed by Daniel Angus, accompanied by Cara Tivey. A dance video featuring RNC dancer Adrian White was shown in the background
‘Do what you have to do’ [Sarah McLachlan], performed by Amy Gilbert, accompanied by Cara Tivey
‘Leaning on a lamp-post’ [George Formby], performed by Matthew Richards on the ukulele
The students were inundated with congratulations afterwards, with one guest commenting: “The Royal National College for the Blind performance was outstanding and made a very good contribution to the day.”
